Recommendations For the Materials Used in Electrical Installations
- The conduit of flexible polyethylene, which can be identified by its orange color, is the most appropriate for channeling indoor cables, however, when the installations are made outdoors, we must use the metallic conduit tube. Of this material the most used diameters are 13 mm (half inch), and 19 mm (three quarters of an inch).
- The conductor cable must be THHW type with insulation capable of supporting up to 600 V ~. Four types of material are usually used for this type of material:
- Gauges # 14, # 12 and # 10 for branch circuits
- Caliber # 8 for the main power circuit.
- It is necessary to use cables with lining of different color, to differentiate the energized (live) line from the "neutral" line. Once this difference is established, both cables must have and preserve the continuity in the color by distributing the electrical energy from the entrance, to the different contacts and lampholders of the house.
- A main switch must always be placed to disconnect the power from the supply circuit, since this guarantees protection against overloads and short circuits in that line. This circuit breaker must be 40 A.
- Since a house requires several branch circuits, a load center must be placed inside the house to place the circuit breakers that will protect those circuits.
- If flying lamps are to be placed, you must also place 13 mm (half inch) octagonal boxes on the walls, at the indicated height.
- In the walls where contacts and dampers are installed, 13 mm (half inch) boats should be placed.
There are other essential elements for the electrical installation:
- Lampholder for the spotlights.
- 15 A contacts in dining room and bedrooms, and 20 A to connect kitchen appliances and laundry.
- Dampers to control the lighting of the bulbs.
- Plates (or covers) to protect and decorate the installation of switches and contacts.
- Insulating tape, indispensable for all cable joints.
